Celebrating its tenth anniversary at the Cambridge Theatre, Matilda remains a popular show in London’s West End. Based on the magical story by renowned author, Roald Dahl, and with songs by actor and award-winning writer, Tim Minchin, this musical was always set to be a hit.

Matilda the Musical recently celebrated its 10th birthday in the West End. In its 10 wonderful years at London’s Cambridge Theatre it has delighted audiences of all ages with an inspiring story based on the beloved book by Roald Dahl and with music and lyrics by the comedian Tim Minchin. Tim Minchin’s Matilda the Musical is set to reopen at the West End’s Cambridge Theatre on 16 September 2021. The stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved tale is coming up to its 10^th anniversary this October and is being adapted into a film. The incredible musical is almost set to open its doors and has revealed its full cast ahead of its return!

Emma Thompson (Nanny McPhee, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) has been confirmed to take on the role of the iconic school headmaster, Miss Trunchbull, from the Matilda musical and Roald Dahl book it was based on. The news squashes rumours that Ralph Fiennes (Strange Days) would take on the role and comes after it was previously announced that Lashana Lynch (No Time To Die) was in talks to play Miss Honey.

British actress Lashana Lynch, who is perhaps best known for her portrayal of fighter pilot Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel (2019) and who is set to star in the next James Bond film, No Time To Die, is said to be in "final negotiations" to portray Miss Honey in the upcoming new movie adaptation of Matilda The Musical.

The last actress to play Matilda's schoolteacher, Miss Jennifer Honey, on-screen was Embeth Davidtz in the hit 1996 film Matilda, which starred Mara Wilson in the titular role opposite Danny DeVito as Harry Wormwood and Pam Ferris as Matilda's evil headmaster. Wow, what a night! So I’ve been busting to see Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre ever since it was announced almost a decade ago and just couldn’t find a child to go with. Don’t wait as long as I did — this is such a great story that's delivered so well and translates beautifully to adult audiences.

An all-new Matilda film has been given the green light and is now in pre-production. Unlike its 1996 predecessor, the latest big-screen adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved kid's classic will be a musical version directed by the Old Vic's Artistic Director Matthew Warchus. The flick is expected to begin filming in August 2020 while the West End stage musical of Matilda continues to wow audiences at the London's Cambridge Theatre in an open-ended run.

Matilda the Musical, with music and lyrics by the talented Tim Minchin is always going to be a good time. I was most interested to see how children would be able to get lost in the story, to be absorbed by the magic that it has to offer.   Set in the charming Cambridge Theatre, it has quite the staging and setting and Crunchem Hall is set very well.  Of particular note are the letters of the alphabet displayed and dotted around – I wonder what K stands for…
